Hey you should get a 13 digit receipt number from your approval notice I-797 it should look like WAC-XXXXXXXXXX for H1B. you probably provided a wrong number when you made the appointment. Contact your company lawyer or HR ASAP ask them to verify the WAC number as well the other place to verify it is http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis, just input your number on I-797 you will be able to verify it.
It should display staus as "Decision" when the decision was made.

"On November 29, 2011, this I129 PETITION FOR A NONIMMIGRANT WORKER was approved and we sent you an e-mail notice. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.
During this step the formal decision (approved/denied) is written and the decision notice is mailed and/or emailed to the applicant/petitioner. You can use our current processing time to gauge when you can expect to receive a final decision."

and make sure bring a copy or original I-797A not I-797C. I-797C is case acceptance Notice not Approval notice.
once you put your WAC number on the page and click check status button http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis.

thanks so much, firstly http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis. need user name and password, i do not have it.
secondly, i did bring i-797 paper to show approved with number,
thirdly, i can find my number in uscis.
but vo could not find it in pims system.

你好 请问现在你的签证收到了吗 我14号签的 跟你一样也是说系统里找不到我的I797号码 但是签证应该还是approve了的 据VO说一般3-4天就能解决 如果有额外的问题联系我 收了我的护照让我直接去邮局办寄送 看了你的经历现在很忐忑 你的护照当时是返回给你了还是留下了？
