H1B check

I was never checked before either as F1 or H1B. I thought mechanical engineering is not a sensitive major at all. I was told to wait 2 to 4 weeks. I saw from this bbs that the average period of waiting time is 3 weeks. Any comments? I have to reschedule my flight back to the US. By the way, they collected my passport as well.
