The reason of their visit to US can be not limited to "family reunion" but also "tour". so take it easy.
for the ticket, there is no other way around, you got to pay for the expensive ticket price if you wish to come with them together. but my suggestions is, donot book THEIR tickets before they receive visa.

of course you can book your ticket. but what i said is, don't book your parents' ticket until they receive their visa...
