I believe it doesn't really matter if you have a kid or not, after all, it is about your mom's situation in china. Provide more information about your mom, her housing ownership, her job position, her bank account to indicate she doesn't have long term plan to stay here. My parents were asked the same question, and they told the truth, no problem at all. BTW, that was their second visit to States.
