2. how often you go back to visit them. it is good if you to visit them regularly.
indeed my family has exactly the same situation as yours. my parents were denied in 2003 twice. then we paid them for a european trip, also I went back to visit them once. my visa was changed from f1 to h1. in 2004 they applied again when I was in China. and they got the visa.
